HSPF

Heating Seasonal Performance Factor (HSPF) - This rating is used to measure heating efficiency for heat pumps. Like the SEER rating, the higher the HSPF, the more efficient and cost effective your heat pump is. Look for a rating between 7.7 and 13. Energy Star rated heat pumps have an HSPF of at least 8.2.

SEER

Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) - This is the standard rating used to measure efficiency of air conditioners and heat pumps. The higher the SEER rating, the less energy the unit consumes and the less impact it has on the environment. You will want to look for a rating between 13 and 30. Energy Star rated systems have a SEER rating of at least 14

AFUE

Average Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) - This measures efficiency for gas and oil-fired furnaces. Quality furnaces will range from 78% to 98.5%. A 78% AFUE rating means that the furnace converts 78% of fuel to heat your house, while the remaining 30% is sent out the flue.

ECM

One of the major improvements for air conditioners and furnaces is something called an ECM motor, also referred to as a variable speed motor. The letters ECM stand for electronically commutated motor, which might sound a bit complex to understand.(DC Current)

PSC

Short for permanent split capacitor, PSC motors are designed to do what furnace motors have always done in the past: simply turn on and off. The output of a PSC motor isn't controllable and it has no intermediate speeds. It's either running at full output or it's not running at all. (AC Current)

AHRI

AHRI is an abbreviation for the Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute, a trade association that develops standards for measuring and certifying product performance. AHRI standards and guidelines are used throughout the world. Equipment with the AHRI Certified® mark has AHRI’s assurance that it will perform accurately and consistently.

Dual Fuel

A comfort system that pairs an electric heat pump with a gas furnace and alternates between the two fuel sources to maximize comfort and efficiency.

Two-Stage Operation

Provides two levels of heating or cooling output for enhanced temperature control, energy efficiency and indoor air quality.

Variable Speed Motor

A motor that operates at a wide range of speeds to precisely control the distribution of heated and cooled air throughout the home.

Modulating System

Modulated scroll systems are revolutionary air conditioning units with the latest technology that offers the features and benefits quality-conscious consumers are seeking. Variable-speed or modulated air conditioners ensure even room temperature.  Modulated air conditioning systems help to control the indoor humidity
